Bahlsen Biscuits
The indulgent treat for you, that treats others well too

Chocolate is made from the seeds of the cocoa tree, Theobroma cacao, which is a small evergreen tree native to tropical regions of the Americas. The name Theobroma comes from the Greek for 'food of the gods'. The fruits, or pods, grow directly from the trunk and older branches of the tree and reach about 30cm long. When mature, the pods turn rich orange, and contain up to 60 seeds.

To make chocolate, the seeds of the cocoa tree are fermented, dried and then roasted. Chocolate has been made for around 3,000 years, first as a drink and only in more recent times as a sweet treat. Much of today's cocoa is produced in Western Africa.

Bahlsen supports sustainable cocoa-farming by purchasing UTZ certified cocoa. This program helps to educate cocoa farmers in environmental management techniques and healthy working conditions, and ensures that plantations are regularly monitored by independent experts. This program benefits both the cocoa farmers and their families, as well as supporting the conservation of natural resources in cocoa-producing regions.

So look out for the new-look Choco Leibniz biscuits in your supermarket - not only are you sure to enjoy this deliciously indulgent chocolate treat, but you're also helping to support sustainable farming methods.
