Kay has worked as Horticultural Editor on Gardeners' World Magazine for three years. After training at Bristol and Kew, Kay worked as a freelance gardener, landscaper and writer. In her spare time she enjoys her vegetable plot in London and a courtyard garden on the Sussex coast.
Kay started gardening with her dad on their allotment when she was eight years old, and tended her teachers' gardens after school for pocket money. However, it wasn't until her early 20s that she realised she could earn a living from her love of plants.
In addition to her work on Gardeners' World magazine Kay has contributed to a number of BBC TV programmes including the Chelsea Flower Show and Gardeners' World.
