Hi all. I've been away for nearly 2 weeks and despite dad's best efforts there are lots of inedible runners. I've picked them but as they are such a faff to pod whilst still green can i dry them out and then use them for cooking? Anyone tried this? I have grown 'white lady' this year for the first time.
yEs you can GW. But make absolutley sure they are really dry before storage otherwise they will rot. You could leave them on the plant to swell and then pick them and dry them out and to save seed for next years crop too. Two in one.

Definitely; we do this all the time. You can leave the pods (preferably on the plant) till they go black and the seeds fall out - maybe onto a sheet or similar. Save the best (ideally in the fridge, although that's probably not necessary) for resowing next year (unless it's an F1 variety) and store the rest in jars for protein in the winter. Soak overnight, then boil and simmer as for other dried beans.
That's great. I've picked them as I want to keep harvesting - thrown so many away in the past! Should make a nice soup addition.
