Bought this in a reputable orchard but have lost the label.  Planted in our heavy clay soil it has given us a small amount of apples even in the first year, but I was wondering if we should prune it as branches are quite long - it is only about 5ft in height, I don't think it will be a massive tree, but at the moment I have supports for some of the branches as they were quite heavily dangling down.  I may go back to the orchard if no-one can help.

Sorry I'm not an expert, but I'm sure it will need pruning to keep it to the right shape so here is a link to the RHS pruning apple trees site.

Also if I reply it will push your post up and someone more expert may see it.

If the branches are too heavily laden you have to remove apples to prevent the branches being broken.

Next year if there are apples on your tree, thin them out or the tree will be damaged.
