Hi, can anyone help me with my apple tree problem. Had a game with snails crawling up it and attacking the fruiit last year. It's in its fourth year now, is a dwarf variety called scrumptious. I tried the copper tape last year but it didn't seem to help. Many thanks.

What about mulching a good area around the stem with a generous layer of coarse grit?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I'll give that a try
or coarsely-broken eggshells?
Bury or lay a beer can or bottle with some beer in it. This attracts them and kills them...don't know why.
Thanks mimic, I'll try that too
Sorry should have said Mimi, it's this predictive text you know
Beer works. Trouble is, it also attract and kills the nice big black beetles that eat slugs. The slimy beasts don't like crawling across sharp edges, so eggshells can help, as can coarse ash (which may also supply potassium that'll help the apples).
Personally I'd rather drink the beer myself.
Steve 309 do you think the ash from our woodburner may do the trick?
