Garlic

No -it is completely hardy and needs a cold spell to grow properly-leave it as it is.

Don't worry.  The garlic I planted in November is fifteen inched high!

Hi all i also planted garlic in Nov in a rain sodden heavy  just manured raised allotment bed, my first time and i honestly expected nothing to happen at all and now 60% are about 2 inches tall and look strong, 2 of them i put in a pot and  are now 6 inches tall and  im amazed

Hey folks. I planted mine in September as I always do. They are sitting at about 12 inches and very happy. They dont need covered either as its the cold that splits the bulb so it produces cloves or you will just end up with a very large looking spring onion. Still tasty...just very very mild 

I was just about to post a similar question - cloves planted in late October in Central Scotland are about 5 inches high so far, and all have sprouted which was a nice surprise as thought a few might fail as i just planted a bulb from the supermarket! I just hope they taste good!

I only planted mine a couple of days ago, frost is forecast so they should get a chilling. Last year I was so late I ended up putting the bulbs in the fridge for a couple of weeks. Did get some bulbs all be it small.

Has anyone else had problems with birds nicking your garlic? Maybe its just a Fife bird kinda thing but three of mine have been nobbled by magpies
