Glode artichokes, over wintering..

Late summer I bought 12 globe artichoke plants from the nearly dead section in a local store, not expecting them to live...and one died...the rest are looking really healthy.

I'm not to sure what to do now, they had a good mulch of muck when planted out on the allotment, probably October time, wilted a little but picked up and are about 1ft high.

It's getting cold now here in the NW and me thinks they've probably gone in to dormance ready for next year.

Should I cover with fleece if frost is due, leave them alone or cut the growth to ground level?.

They are in a sheltered spot.

Hi Zoomer. A neighbouring allotmenteer has cut his down and gave a good mulch of well rotted manure. Considering growing some myself as area is sheltered. Rhs site may have more info.image

  • I'd do exactly the same as BizzieB's neighbour image
