I have a melon in greenhouse for first time. What I need to know is.....can I cut off the wee runners, what do I feed it with and how often, do I just let it do and go where ever it wants (everywhere).Heeelllppp.

Feed with tomato fertilizer every week, keep it well watered and shaded. Have you only got one small fruit at the moment though, as more will come the longer the main stem gets.

Just wait til the fruit gets bigger and fills the green house with scent, you are in for a treat
I dont remember doing anything to mine except what Dave said

Train it up a cane

I grow mine in the greenhouse and let them scramble along the staging. You can also train them virtically but you'd need to make a supporting net for the melons if you do it that way. I tend to wait till there is 2 or 3 fruit on one plant then pinch out the tips further along to make sure the fruit develop nicely.

Also with melons i find they need a hand pollinating so i get a makeup brush and pollinate the female flowers by hand.

great advice guys, hand pollinating female flowers???. How do I tell the difference?

AndytheScientist

The female flowers have a bulge at the base, where the male ones don't.
