Here's a clearer picture of one the toms in its little pot. It's perfectly happy and will go into the ground later this week.

The three lowest wee branches will come off leaving only the canopy and it will be planted deeply so that the canopy is almost sitting on the top of the soil. All the buried stem will develop into root structure.

Interesting re the small pots...I moved 6 plants on yesterday, from 3" to 10" pots. Do you think the 10" ones would be adequate for their final homes? I usually move them on again, but if the 10" will do, I'll save myself the space, time and compost.

As if the weather carries on like this I think I'll be keeping them all under glass this year.

10" is on the small side, even for a bush variety. Which varieties do you have, figrat?

Gardener's Delight, Fiorentino, Tigrella and Alicante. Might liberate a couple go the GD's into the garden. Have bigger pots for the rest, I'll let them bulk up a bit more.

They're all indeterminates, figrat. Bigger pots or into the ground. Is the Fiorentino a Costoluto Fiorentino?

Ok - bigger pots then! Yes re Fiorentino - haven't tried it before. Not doing the Brandywines this year, as only got about 4 fruit last season in total.

Costoluto Fiorentino is a nice tomato. Costoluto means "ribbed" in Italian, Fiorentino basically means "Florentine", or of Florence. Red, medium-sized, slightly flattened beefsteak. Heavily ribbed fruit. It's superior to another "Costoluto", "Genovese".

CF is a famous old Italian variety but I suspect it has been hybridised over the years, unfortunately. It's not as full of flavour as it used to be.

Italophile- can I come and live with you....

Mine are on windowsills and will be staying there. Plenty flowers now. Will buy a few from GC probably but won't put them outdoors- weather up here is not conducive to outdoor toms- even in a half decent summer!

Fairygirl is it what i think you want to go and live with Italophile for what he said in one of his previous post lol.
