 so, mrs bf kindly got me this lemon tree. it appears healthy enough - has a few green lemons which seem to be getting bigger, plus some new flowers have recently emerged. i'm a bit clueless about what pruning i should or shoudn't be doing though.

the lowest branch, to the right of the pic, has really shot up. no sign of flowers on it and it's now overtaken the rest of the tree. i wondered whether it was a sucker but somehow it looks too solid? 

i've had the tree a few months now and it clearly came 'ready pruned' in that at various points you can see other growth was cut back so this branch must have been deliberately left.i know nothing about fruit trees so i'm inclined to play it safe. having said that, the way it's growing doesn't quite look right to me...

any advice gratefully accepted!
