I am looking for some advice on what to do with my summer fruiting raspberries canes and blackberries canes after they have been cut down after fruiting.  My question is can they be put onto the compost or they be treated the same as a bramble which must be burned?  I put gooseberries on the heap as I sure they are ok, but something in the back of my mind says its not a good idea for rasperries and blackberries.

Woody things, and that includes gooseberry prunings too, are usually burned, because they take a long, long time to rot down.

I put mine through a shredder and then compost. Anything diseased goes in the brown bin or gets burnt.

Never thought of the shredder, as I haven't got one.  Would be the best solution.

Huge pile reduces down to a couple of tubs full. Mix up 50/50 with grass cuttings, and stand well back. it heats up and drops by 30 % in a week.
