Electricity Pole

Hi Folks
Have this in the front garden, and want to try to not make it as obvious looking. I already have a honeysuckle on the big pole. We get a lot of wind in the front garden, waiting for hedges to grow for shelter. Any ideas would be great.
many thanks

Angela, you have a problem which I'm afraid you will not be able to solve. The electricity companies will remove any vegetation growing up an electricity pole no matter what it is, for safety reasons. All you can do is create a screen in front of it with some trees, but they have to be far enough away as to not interfere with the live wires.
Your garden looks huge,
What about if you turned it into a feature ?
Would a evergreen clematis work ?
I know you would have to be careful because of the electric company but could you do a flower bed of sorts in the front, leaving enough room for any maintainence work on the pole, tall sedges that would sway in the wind wouldn't take much looking after
and show a evergreen. clematis on the pole.
With the right sedges and grasses it could be a robust enough even for heavy footed workman to step on and not do damage.if there was damage then I think cutting them down to maybe eight inches or so and they would 're establish themselves..m
Just read Dave's post, he touched on something I'd not considered.but in front ,if it was me I'd do the grass the tallest I could find , a distance away from the pole but in front of it .so at least the eye would go to the grasses.
I had a pole a few feet from the house, When I said it was leaning towards the house, they came and diverted it underground. It might be worth a try.
Otherwise if you plant a small tree nearer to the view point than the pole, the tree will hide the pole from your main viewpoint.
Thank you for your advice and help. Was on to the ESB and the told me its the main line for our road so can`t be put underground.(thanks fidget, it was worth a try). I also have the septic tank in the front garden, there is a river at the back of the house and it had to be so many meters away from it. not a pretty sight but it is being made into a flower bed at the moment. I love the hangy down trees, like the weeping willow. I think I`ll try one of them. Thanks again, off to the GC for a look.
What a beautiful garden Angela
I have same type of post end of my back garden and this year it looks better as horse chestnut stands in front and detracts the eye
Have you considered planting a tree?
Sorry fidget! You have already suggested! X
Hi Beaus Mum
I love the horse chestnut with the pink blossom on them, never see them in GCs, was looking at them on the web. What size tree did you get?
Oh Angela it was already in my garden when I moved in, but this year I didn't take out any branches the side of the pole and def takes the eye off the pole
I would suggest looking on the net for specialist tree nurserys as size of ones in garden centre would take years to make much difference unless you have more patience than me
