I once grew poppies (just ordinary Papaver rhoeas) in a huge tub on the patio and they were stunning but brief, can I sow successively to make a longer show? and can I start now?

They are pretty brief aren't they. You can start when you like, they're totally hardy

Thanks Nut, is it worth successive sowing or will they all flower at the same time anyway?
I don't know how long they take to germinate Ashleigh, mine just self seed and appear when they're ready. I'd sow them direct, rather than in trays for transplant

I'm going to sow poppies in the top corner of my new border, where I have just moved a 'Broom' to, I have loads of packets so am just going to scatter them and see what happens
I don't know if you have got this month's GW mag yet Ashleigh, but there is an article on poppies in that, don't know how good it is as my copy hasn't arrived yet....boo
Are you sowing a mixture of varieties Tracey?
Yes I am Ashleigh, I don't know what varieties off hand as my seeds aren't handy but can tell you tomorrow. I have about 6 packets of seeds, all free and some out of date so nothing at all to lose. I also bought 3 Papaver Harlem when on offer in the mag and they are already planted in another border and coming along nicely
They will look gorgeous, remember to take photo's.
Oh I will Ashleigh, take pics of everything Night x
There is a free pack of poppy seeds inside the mag Tracey
My mag had better come today or someone is going to be in trouble!!!! I love poppies, they are so pretty
