Another plant ID question

JetmorganJetmorgan Posts: 79

Cycling to work I found this plant in the garden wall of a house...and being a bit cheeky I took a quick photo. What plant is this please as I would like to get into my garden as it was covered in bees.

Sorry it's on it's side...for some reason my computer won't rotate

It is Helianthemum rather than Cistus.

That's the problem with common names, they're both called rock rose by someimage

Helianthemum's can get very woody as they age and don't always regrow from old wood if you prune then, so it's good to take cuttings to replace them every few years like you would with lavender. They also need full sun and free draining soil, so it's best to treat them like an alpine.

Another common name for the Helianthemum is "sun rose", so perhaps this has led to confusion with "rock rose".
