Can anyone tell me what this is? It's about 1.25 metres tall at the moment.

    How's about a Shirley poppy?

Edd, why not?   I used to grow them in warmer climes, and this one looks just the same.

    Nut has it perfect?

A very tall poppy? That's not much of an ID is it?.

Over a meter seems rather tall for any of that type of poppy but maybe thay grow short here. Shirley poppies are derived from Papaver rhoeas and that's what the leaves look like to me

treepot, have a look for growing poppies on the Seasonal Wisdom.com site.   Have just found one of Shirley poppies, very similar to yours.

Have you ever been to Paris? That is definately a Versailles Poppy, I have them in and amongst my vegetables to distract butterflies with their gentle waving, plus the leaves shade the lettuces. Absolutely stunning and I fling their seeds everywhere - Sheer joy.
