ants in my plants

hi everyone,

Ive got a dwarf cherry in a pot and whilst having my coffee I noticed ants marching up and down this little tree, obviously very busy. Will they do it any harm or is it safe to leave them to go about their business

I think i may have found the answer on another thread. Im off to find some vaseline

Get rid of any colonies of aphids that you find on the tree, too, and check that there isn't an ants' nest in the cherry's pot.

Tks for that Alina I did wonder if there was a nest in the pot but ive being watching them and they are leaving the pot when they leave the tree. Ive put the vaseline on and they sure as heck dont like it. Ive given the tree a spray as well. Great site this by the way. Im learning so much from reading the forums 

Hi averil 2 I have ants in my clematis. Where did you see the answer please?

The answer Averil's talking about is to put a wide band of vaseline around the trunk, thus stopping the ants climbing up it, but that won't work for your clematis.

Check whether your ants are farming aphids on your clematis; if so, squash the aphids and keep doing so regularly.
