Anyone know the name of this succulent?

Hello again! I've been collecting succulents for a while and have done up a troth. One of the succulents is gorgeous and has bright pink flowers but it was from the market and again without the label. If anyone could help that would be wonderful. Thanks so much Nenah

I think it might be Lewisia.

I think its a lewisia too. They dont like getting too wet in the crowns. They like being on their sides coming out of walls, or very carefully water so the centre doesn't get wet.

  • Yes it looks like a Lewisia to me image

  • That's the one! Thank you ever so much, I've not known whether to dead head or not but now I know i need to. Thanks ever so much!

    Hi Neneh.

That's a beautiful trough you have there. I have many sempervivums in a trough and have had real problems this year with vine weevil larvae burrowing into the fleshy stems of the plants. I had no idea there was a problem until the blackbirds chucked all the plants on the patio to get at the grubs so now I keep an eye out for anything that isn't as rampant as it ought to be. Luckily sempervivums are good at growing back when they have had an operation to remove the pests.

Hope your trough doesn't suffer from the same beasts.

  • Hello there, Ceres. Thank you for your lovely comments, it's so interesting talking to people who love succulents too.

I haven't had any problems with this particular plant but further down my troth, one of my florette style succulents had its leaves all stuck together with glue like sticky stuff. When I parted the leaves, I found a small slender green catipillar typed thing. Is this anything like what you are speaking of?

    Thanks so much

    Nenah

The vine weevil larva (fat and white) hides itself in the plant stem just below the surface of the soil so there is no way of knowing it is there until either the plant dies, or the blackbirds go hunting for bugs. It devastated 50% of the sempervivums and has started to attack the newly planted trough.
