Hi,

After a house move, I have now found that quite a few plants are emerging in the new garden and being a novice gardener, I would love to know what we have growing here. Any ideas what this plant is? Thx

From what I can see, looks like you have a few plants in there. The middle and biggest one I think a rose.

Thx Hollie HocK, I did wonder if it was a rose because of the thorny appearance. The thin shoot on the other pic has me mystified!

The bottom one looks like something a bit primitive like horsetail

Is horsetail a weed? Apologies if that's a daft q. I'm not great on botany.

It is I'm afraid Jody.

Thx, that's something new ive learned today lol.

You really don't want horse tail and it has deep roots. The best way to get rid of it is to spray with glyphosate, but don't let it touch the rose.

I've never had to deal with horsetail B-L. Do you have to wait for it to be green before you hit it?

Busy-Lizzie

Actually, I haven't either, but I saw the head gardener at Hyde Hall (I think it was) getting rid of it there on an old Gardener's World. He had to get the bed ready to plant for the new season. It was green and he sprayed it with Glyphosate.

I like native plants but you have to draw a line somewhere.

Horsetail contains lots of silica in the stems and so to aid killing you should damage the stems before weed killer is applied.
