I seeded a bed with candytuft in September and I thought what was growing was candytuft however I am beginning to think they may be weeds. The foliage has serrated leaves and in all the photos on the internet they have elongated plain leaves. I hope this is not the case. Any help would be appreciated
If the little flower buds look like they might be yellow, its a weed but I can't remember the name. I reckon Nut will know it.
That isn't candytuft but you will need someone else to tell you what it is.
I wouldn't whip them out til you know what they are though. Well grown plants, nicely spaced, maybe you sowed something else instead
Or is it just me that does that
Did you one of the daisy family instead carnsie? It looks like one of the shasta daisies.
I do that Nut
They look familiar but I can't put a name to them - I certainly wouldn't pull them out until you know what they are.
Something keeps saying 'daisy' to me - Shasta - something along those lines ........... but I'm probably wrong
Oh Dave, didn't see you there - I started the post and then got distracted by a cuppa
Leucanthemum? Or is that the same as shasta?
I may well have sown something else I honestly don't know it seems really odd that they have only sprouted exactly where I put the seeds. perhaps I have sown something else. Thanks for the replys I'll leave them for now and see what they look like when they flower
Looks like wild rocket to me, try a tiny bit off leaf
They are starting to flower now any clues as to what they are. Flowers do look similar to candytuft and have a weak sweet fragrance.
Could it be wild candytuft?
The flowers do look like candytuft don't they. I think it must be.
They do and they smell like candytuft flowers. Weird. At least I didn't pull them even if they are not candytuft I think they will look decent when in flower.
There are quite a lot of species of iberis (candytuft) and I wonder if yours is not the usual one seen in packets of white, pink and purple candytuft.
The developing flowers look identical to my candytuft, though the leaves on mine are only slightly serrated, much less than yours
I shall have a rummage round the www and see if I can find another species that looks right
Looks like iberis amara. And I said it wasn't candytuft..............................what a fool.
I have grown candytufy last year and even I did not think it was candytuft. Im happy though as least I don't have pull them a plant something else. Thanks for the help it does look like iberis amara
