chelsea chop

Hello to the experts. Can someone tell me if asters be given the chelsea chop. Mine have grown so tall but I would like them somewhat shorter. Thanks.

I think it's too late now, Chelsea chop is when the show is on the TV, you could lose the flowers if you cut it now.

maybe someone else will update, that's just my opinion.

I agree with Lyn, If you cut  back now it won't flower

Saturday's i newspaper, Anna Pavord said to disbud Dahlias until a good strong framework of leaf and stem has been built up. Don't know if this works on Astersimage

I don't think so Art, different kind of plants.

i do disbud dahlias as if you let them flower from the start, they won't be able to become a big strong plant, I do this for annuals but not for asters, just a chop back early does the trick.
