I bought this plant last year.  It claimed to be an Ice White clemaitis, which should be (obviously) white, and perhaps a bit pale blue in the shade.

This one is clearly not white!  Any idea what is it?

President ??  My favorit one !,_Niles,_Illinois_-_20060527.jpg

Hmm, I'm not sure.  The President pictures make it look a deeper purple; this one is more pinky-lilac.  Also the centre part is less fluffy

No idea about yours, can anyone name this one.  Still a lot to open and there's even more at the other side of the fence.

Looks almost red - Rebecca?  How tall is it?

You can use the text search facility on this website - - to tell it what colour are the tepals and stamens and it will come up with a list you can then search to compare and identify yours.

It's an academic research website so won't try and sell you plants but it does list thousands of them.  It also gives info on pruning groups, flowering times, how to prune and how to care for your clematis.

Have fun.

Don't think I ever heard of a clematis Ice White ?  The plant in the picture looks very much like some of the Estonian Cultivars, just starting to flower now, larger flowers, maybe Teksa ?

Yours looks like it could be Rouge Cardinale, Netherfield.

Hi Nynaeve  think it might be sea breeze. If not it is very simiar. I agree with Richard on the second one.

Sorry, not Ice White, Ice Blue!  But it's supposed to be a (mostly) white flower when getting sun.  Will check out these links, thanks everyone

...this is Clematis 'Ice Blue' in my garden.. or it was.. as it died on me this Spring after just 2 years in the ground...this has made me wary of these Boulevard clematis you see in garden centres, as they're quite expensive too... this one cost something like £18.00...also it only flowers in mid May-mid June...

.sorry to be negative but obviously disappointed with it...

What a shame, it was so pretty. But I have a double white clematis which I haven't seen for two years and it's popped up again! It was supposed to be a Florida with a purple middle, but it turned out to be Florida Alba Plena.

Netherfield- agree with Richard  - it looks like Rouge Cardinal. The slightly reflexed shape is typical. Rebecca's a bit bigger with 'pointier' sepals Nynaeve. Lovely clematis.

After seeing that from obelixx, I think you are all probably right, thank you.

That's the problem with inheriting plants with a house.

There will be another later in the year to identify, when it flowers.

flowering rose
