Hi there, am wondering if anyone can recommend a clematis that is guaranteed to flourish on a north facing wall in not having much luck with what i have planted so far!

The Hull site is excellent and I use it a lot but it doesn't indicate hardiness.  My local supplier here does and I now only buy those labelled hardy down to -25C which I suspect would be good in north Scotland too.

Try Blue Angel/Blekitny Aniol -; Caerulea Luxurians - ; Nelly Moser and Rahvarinne look good planted together but have to be treated as group 3s, Omoshiro

I've just bought Minuet to plant on another bit of north facing wall.   Others you could look at are Etoile Violette, Little Nell and Betty Corning.

Nelly moser is great for north walls.  Check it out.  Lovely clematis....maybe the best

So is the pale pink Hagley hybrid, most of the paler ones appreciate some shade, also the alpina types do well in the kind of place you describe.

Nelly Moser survives well up here Helen! I'm west and south of Glasgow and I know several people have it although it's too wishy washy a colour for me  The montanas are fine too. If you're in the west it's the constant wet ground that's an issue more than cold so plenty of grit in the planting hole

Nelly gets bleached pale by sunlight but keeps her colour well on a north facing wall and, like I said, is good contrasted with a darker on like Rahvarinne.

Nellie moser is not bleached on a north wall.  It is a superb clematis and prob the best for that position

I'll vote for Nelly up here too - she's just poking her head above the ground a few inches now.
