Does anyone recognise this cactus like plant?

A friend gave me this plant, frost tender, but she didn't know it's name. She said that it wouldn't flower for about 3 years as it was a cutting, or a bit she pulled off. But it's produced a big pink flower after total neglect by me, where it lives on the terrace.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Yip, a Bromeliad. Can go outside during summer in the UK then back inside before any frosts.
