Awww, thanks GrandadGardener - I'll remember that for tomorrow - in fact I have a builders bag of pea gravel in the front garden - could I use this for a mulch? would I have to wash it first?

Hiya Lucy3...pea shingle is perfect and no you don't have to wash it...I hope that your Clematis pull through....As I said before clematis adore warm roots so that pea shingle will be wonderful....Happy gardening dear lady...
