Free plants

Hello

I was just wondering if any body has any free plants, I live in Southampton and I have made a few tyre planters but not got much plants growing to put into them.

Anybody interested in donating any plants any sort? By sending in the post unless you live near Woolston/ Sholing in Southampton

Would need a few plants now to go into the planters- so growing there already for spring. These will situated at Sholing train station for everyone to see.

Not sure this is the right forum to ask for free plants as people post from all over the world! And it's probably a bit much to expect people to pay to post plants to you!

You could try joining your local Freecycle group as I often see plants offered on there. Good luck.

Please ignore my last message as I have for the first time this evening read your thread about car tyre planters and see you are well aware of freecycle! Good luck still!

Did think about freecycle but I thought I would see if anybody had any plants they did not mind giving away.

Any sort of cuttings that I could grow on would be nice if anybody is willing to send them.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this?

There are offers in Gardeners' World Magazine and Amateur Gardening, whewre you can get free plants just for the price of the postage.  Hope this helps.

Join a local garden club. Lots of plant swapping

This has come up before-unless this is done out of the goodness of people's hearts-which I know some would-who pays for the p& p?-now the recipient could say she or he would- but then then means sending payment-how do they do that?-more expense

Or there could be a swap-but how would that work-you may not have something that interest me either?

The idea in principle is good but the practicalities of it are probably a bit to tricky to overcome-far better to join a club or look on freecycle as has been said.

I saw the other day on a similar topic that it was suggested that the site get involved-but this is a commercial organisation-why should they do that when they already have arrangements with a seed company to do their own offers.

I don't think you can expect people to just send you free plants as some one wil have to pay for the postage. I have had  a couple of lovely buddliea cuttings sent to me from a poster on here which are now in the garden I paid the postage by cheque but paypal could be an option as well. I guess it all depends how honest and reliable people are about this.

a good way of getting plants is of course to pass some of your unwanted plants on to other gardeners in your area or to family and friends and they in return give you cuttings.The sun flowers seeds I pass onto my daughter who then gives them to the school and her friends,in return she gives me cuttings or plants.I also get cheap plants and often better plants at the side of the road sales.
