Golden Bamboo advice
Hi there,
As a novice gardener I was hoping for some tips and advice with some bamboo I've bought to act as a subtle screen.
I've got a couple of what seem like well established Golden bamboo plants (Pyllostachys aurea) and hope to get some more shortly. I'm unable to plant them directly in the ground so would like to move them from their plastic pots to some nice wooden planters. Will the plants survive and spread in the planters, or will they remain in the clumps they're currently in? Will they damage the planters? I don't want to spend good money on them only for the bamboo to burst through the sides! My understanding is only some bamboo types would grow in a way that might do this?
Many thanks
Nick

I'll bump you up to the top Nick. I have no experience of bamboo in pots, sorry
In the sticks near Peterborough
They can grow to nearly 5 metres and spread up to 2 metres, so eventually you'll need very big pots, usually weighted with a very heavy base as wind can topple them easily in small pots. To be honest they aren't plants for a novice gardener. If the conditions are right they can grow very quickly and that can mean trying to repot a huge plant, which isn't easy at all.
