Growing Cardoons

I have had a lovely cardoon in the garden this year and wondered how to grow another for next year. There are some long silky threads in the dead flower heads - are these the seeds? There are also some new leaves growing at the base. Does this mean that it is regenerating itself? I would be most grateful for any info on this plant as it was great for bees this year. Thanks.

rummage around among the seedy threads and you might well find some seeds.

They look like little courgette/ melon seeds and they germinate well.

they don't always set seed I'd have to say, but you might well find a few underneath all the "silky threads"

Very few of the fluffy seed heads ever seem to contain any seeds, on my Cardoons.

  • Oh thank you all for these comments. Punk - I am glad you said that about seeds as I could not see where they are! I will have to dig deeper to find them.
