Can anyone help I'd this plant which is a small shrub around 14-16" height and spread and bears it's flowers right now with leaves to follow. I inherited it with the house we moved into ut it's not one I'm familiar with at all.
Hi, your plant is a drawf Russian almond, Prunus tenella. We had one for many years and is one of my favourite early shrubs. The only downside is that once it has finished flowering it does not do much till next spring. If it likes you it can spread quite a bit but I never minded that. It never gets much bigger than 1m high. There is a cultivar called 'Fire Hill' but I don't know of a way to tell it apart form the species.
Thankyou so much...that's not one I've ever heard of and yes, you're right, it doesn't do anything but leaf up. I've just had a tree removed behind it so I'm hoping it'll like the additional light this coming growing season.
As far as I am aware, yes.
