Help identifying my herbs?

I just bought a house, and it has a herb garden out back. Can anyone help identify the contents of my new garden? I plan to take samples to a garden center, but it's not very high on the list of priorities right now.

#1 and #2 both smell like mint. If that is the case, what's the difference?

Thanks!

  • If 1 and 2 smell like mint maybe 2 is a form of peppermint? There are so many varieties...

    4 rosemary I think

5 thyme that's pretty much finished flowering. I cut mine back the other day, just under the flowers (i think that's what you're meant to do)

Number 3 is Rue. Be careful when handling that as the sap can be a skin irritant. Julie is right - there are dozens of different scented mints and I agree with Julie on the other IDs.

    1 looks like lemon balm.

    4 is Rosemary.

5 maybe thyme but I would like to see a better picture.

Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
