Jasmin - officinale or trachelspermum??

chickychicky Posts: 10,409

A friend of mine wants to cover the back fence of his garden with white flowered scented jasmine.  He was going to go with trachelspermum, but has been recommended to use officinale instead.  does anyone know the difference, and which would you go for?  He lives in urban southeast.

Trachelospermum jasminoides is evergreen and isn't a jasmine, not even in the same family.

    Jasminum officianalis is deciduous.

Thanks Nut - do you grow either?

i once tried trachelospermum, but it didn't survive the first winter (in our frost pocketimage) - is there any difference in hardiness between them?  And are both floriferous?

otherwise it seems that the choice is really evergreen (with some autumn tints) or deciduous.
