I have a rather overgrown Jasmine which I need to cut back. I did cut it back a bit at the end of flowering but I think I may need to go for a harsher approach. How much should I cut back? Sorry to be so vague but I am a bit unsure on this.
If it's a summer flowering jasmine, then you can prune now and you can do it quite harshly, I trim it to shape only. I pruned two years ago down to about two feet tall and it's re-grown but didn't flower last year. So if want it to flower, don't go down to the bare wood.

If it's winter or spring flowering, leave until finished flowering, and then prune hard, feed and mulch.
Any idea what soil jasmine likes, acid, ericaceous, neutral alkaline etc?
Winter jasmine grows fine in my very alkaline soil. Other types have sulked and died.
Thanks Land girl
I saw plants of a jasmine Beesianum in Morrison's today. Do you think it would have a scent please?
