When is the best time to divide this Plant mine is a beautiful peach colour

After flowering. I dig some of them up and divide when thick flower stems have been removed and pull plants apart.  I replant or pot up.

So, would you say about August, Verdun?

Hmmm!  some are at their best right now.  Those spikes  will be cut to the secondary ones soon.  When they have flowered I accept no more flowers this summer....possibly something in the autumn.  So I lift amd divide June/July Lyn.  I do this then because lupins deteriorate so quickly after flowering.  They simply arent worth looking at so dig  em up, dIvide amd grow on.  Cannas in their place or bonariensis or dahlias.

I have smaller lupins which will flower a little later now but the sequence for me is just the same.  Much the same with some of the Pulmonarias.  I lift, divide and pot up into 2 or 3 litre pots and use the space for summer plants.  Ditto primroses...some of them

Victoria Sponge

Can I just clarify- should this just be done for propagation or does it need doing in order to keep the plant healthy/ discard old bits? If the latter, how often?
