have a HUGE and completely out of hand clematis that is taking over next doors trees. it only flowers for about a week a year and the rest of the time is just a pest, and obscures light to flowers below it. so, its coming out. i'd like to put another climber in its place, though not a clematis, and preferably one that is a bit better at putting on a display.

Ideas welcome.

There are roses that will happily grow into trees. Some will repeat flower and some only flower once. They need hardly any maintenance other than a quick check for dead branches and don't have to block out the sun.
