David -to me it looks like another couple of weeks and they will need pricking out-from that picture they don't look big enough to handle yet

that link was useful thanks, im slowly starting to understand all the terminology used on here now like pricking out and overwintering. My next thing to get is a small cold frame. The compost i used was john innes seed sowing variety. how come?

Hi sontongeoff. I now have 4 choice petunias in pots. Is it safe to leave them in the cold frame overnight considering this is there first time outside today and the cheng temperatures. I live in warks.

David-bring then at night-or cover them with fleece or sheets of newspaper-a frost will do them no good at all

Thanks I will bring them in and start the process of hardening them off. I wish this cold spell would come to an end
