I think it might be Valeriana officinalis, (valerian). Likes shady dampish places, Smells nice.
Not to be confused with Centranthus rubra, also known as valerian.

Interesting. It has leaves that resemble peony
Thanks for your interest ,unfortunately three of these appeared without warning .I took the photo on the day I discovered them and they all look similar . I don't think there is a tuber , just a mass of creamy coloured roots . Hope this helps . Thanks Wendy .
