Good afternoon all, can somebody tell me what this is.  It's not very attractive and quite prickly.

It may not be attractive to you but something finds it tasty.

I know waterbutts, small sections of it seem to die off now and again, the leaves are quite tough.

It has the appearance of Ruscus aculeatus, aka Butcher's Broom to me. Does it get red berries?

Still think it is Butcher's Broom, but well chewed.

Does look like you're right Berghill, I googled it and its very similar.  Never had berries on it, not sure it's being eaten, it's always looked tatty to be honest, sections of it die of or turn white.  Thanks for the ID image

  • it might be the male plant as its only the female plant that gets berries...
