Hi everybody, could you please help me identify these two plants as I see them all the time and it's driving me mad not knowing what they are. Thanks.

Stag's Horn Sumach and Centranthus Ruber.

Centranthus ruber also known as valerian.

I'd say the first is a type of Mahonia & second Valeriun.

Whoops no edit yes first it Sumach..only just got rid of the thing. Don't like 2nd either roots smell awful when you dig them out, spread all over, we used to call it stinky root plant.

In the 1st pic there is something that could be a Mahonia under the Stag's Horn Sumach. The Sumach has the red autumn leaves and the red flowers spikes.

Gee I'm so smart..NOT..thanks BL. Can I go to top of class? just for once.

Well Done busy.  Think you are spot on.  Very observant.  I thought it was mahonia at first cos the leaves do turn red on some varieties.  Busy gets first prize today. - a virtual choc bar
