There's a pink rose called Pippin.
and a Chrysanthemum 'Mancetta Pippin'.
A difficult time for your friend. I had to do the same 3 yrs ago with my beloved 15yr old border collier. But now I've got amber, who came to live with me a couple of months later.
I hope you can find something suitable

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
What about Piptanthus nepalensis, the Evergreen Laburnum. Needs a bit of shelter to grow well, probably best against a wall. Has yellow sweetly scented flowers and will grow to about 6 to 8 feet high. One problem is that snails love it and will devour it unless you give it some protection.
A few suggestions:
Daffodils 'Orange Pippin', 'Pip', 'Pipit', 'Pippa', 'Pippin', 'Pip Pip', 'Pippykin' and 'Pipsqueak'.
Primula auricula 'Purple Pippin'
Sempervivum 'Pippin' (house leek)
Astilbe 'Mighty Pip'
Other Pippin apples, such as 'King of the Pippins', 'Allington Pippin', 'Newtown Pippin' and 'Sturmer Pippin'.
