Have a lovely Sambucca -Black Lace growing in a border. I want to move it to a different location but don't want to damage it. It is about 2" tall and 2" wide and it's presently showing new growth. Can it be moved and if so, when's the best time?

Thanks in advance.

Autumn is the best time to move shrubs and trees.

I've just moved mine from a large pot into a bed and it seems to be coping ok.  I managed to move it intact with all roots compost etc and I'm making sure to keep it watered.  There are no side effects so far, for me.

my advice would be to wait until autumn when you can cut all the branches  down to the base, this will make it easier to dig up and handle . I think it may not like being moved at the moment and could end up looking quite limp

Prepare the new place before hand and water in well.

Potted trees can be planted at any time of the year, but for those in the ground wait until late autumn when the leaves drop and it goes dormant for the winter before moving them.
