Spring ideas

Hi, I am new to Gardening (and this forum) but would really appreciate any help/advice. I would really like to make my garden look much nicer next year and I went to a garden centre to get some ideas for what to plant in the spring but there is so much choice I didnt know where to start. Can anyone offer advice on what bulbs I should purchase as a first timer, something that I can potter about doing at the weekend, many thanks

It is a prime time now for planting tulips-a lot of spring bulbs should have been planted in September-so it is getting a bit late-but if you get the likes of daffodils in now they will still flower next year- but might be a bit later than usual

The key thing is to get a move on- before any real bad weather arrives.

It's getting a bit late for some bulbs but you can certainly still plant daffodils and crocus, and tulips next month. Avoid snowdrops, though - they will have dried out out of the ground and probably won't grow.

You can plant tulips until December. My garden centre still has daffodils and crocus, a bit late but they should be OK. Bear in mind that the leaves of daffodils have to die down so they will look messy after flowering. I plant them in rough grass and around hostas (which die down completely in winter and the leaves will grow to hide the daffodil leaves) and I plant spring bulbs where I will plant dahlias next year. Violas and winter pansies can be planted now too, also wallflowers.
