Lovely paeonies Anthony and little-ann. They often get a battering up here from the wind and rain we tend to get just when they're flowering. They really are stunning plants and worth having even if the flowers are short lived. Which varieties are they?

sorry i dont know

23/06/2013 at 01:25

Is there a more beautiful flower than bowl of beauty??

23/06/2013 at 08:45

sorry i dont know the name was given them

23/06/2013 at 09:02

You're going to hate me Woody....it's the pink and yellow combination....

Sorry!

No matter Anthony and little-ann. We don't always need to know the name to enjoy their beauty do we?

Took this pic of Iris 'Night Owl' this morning as it's just fully opened:

It's even darker than the pic- purples and blues seem to turn out a bit brighter and lighter when you transfer them - not sure why!

That's beautiful Fg, like velvet.

One of my favourite plants nut and it has a beautiful throat which I'll see in a few days as it opens more. I'm waiting for one called 'Black Dragon' to open which looks like it'll live up to it's name. The buds are jet black.

Beautiful iris FG - the blue ones are my favourites - both the very dark and the light ones too.  A couple of years ago we went to the Seagate iris fields in Lincs at flowering time.  Row upon row of beauties to pick from. I was there for hours with my notebook.  Went for Mer de Sud and Silverado in the end - and have been very pleased with my choice

A few years ago My wife and I visited Kelways Nursery in Somerset during Chelsea week and had the pick of all the irises that had not quite made it to the Chelsea stand. Great choice and perfect examples.

They're sumptuous some of them aren't they? I like the very dark and very light ones too -as with most plants- black and white I suppose. Green and purple foliage then lifts and harmonises with them and you can use contrasting foliage shapes without any jarring of colour.

Getting a bit carried away there!

What colour is Mer de Sud chick- is it a blue? (does that translate as Sea of the South?)

23/06/2013 at 10:28

Mer de Sud is really deep blue/purple, and Silverado is lilac with darker falls ( only naff  thing about it is the name!)

Sounds like Desperado for some reason..

Here's one of my big snails - one was strolling along next door's jaggy garage wall and was about 3/4" long from head to tail!
