I would love to see John masseys Arden at ashwood. Lovely picture, as always
I would love to see John masseys garden at ashwood. Lovely picture, as always
happymarion you were in my neck of the woods yesterday! I've not been to Stone Cottage yet, shameful when it's so close! I have been to Ashwood, though. Sounds like you enjoyed it
Daisyheadcase, it's odd isn't it? There are so many famous gardens down here yet visitors have seen more of them than I have. Always meaning to but never get round to it.....
Daisyheadcase, you must go to Stone Cott....small but beautifully formed. The owners are charming and you can buy unusual stuff! Have Tea at Brockencote afterwards for a very special day out.
Oriental Poppy Allegro
Oriental Poppy Royal Wedding
Morning mattbeer, lovely colour on those poppies. I do t grow them but a neighbour does. I intend to find a spot for them
I think there is a new breed of poppy now.....of American origin I think....that's supposed to flower all summer. Do you know anything of those?
No I have never heard of them but if there was a poppy that size that flowered all summer I would be very interested
Mattbeer beautiful poppies. One that bloomed all summer would be great
Mimulus Highland Red
I will try and find out more on these new poppies. I'll start a new thread when I do
I've got some Plum Puddings on the go (poppies, not next year's Christmas pud) and they say they repeat flower - but not sure if they go on all summer - more like two flushes.
Love the colours Matt - that Gazania is zingy !!
Very pretty Allium Roseum
Here you are Verd- Black Dragon. It looks much brighter and lighter in the pic as it was sunny and also the purples don't seem to get the depth in the pix. It's smaller than Night owl but very pretty
will take some more later
Nice pics Mattbeer. I have a poppy royal wedding, it bloomed for 2 days then dropped all the petals. I was a bit disappointed to say the least.
FG - love the Black Dragon.
Here are a couple of my favourite tree in the whole world ! It is a cornus kousa - probably about a century old, and it is absolutely spectacular at this time of year. It is in the centre of our village, and has been known to stop traffic
Wow, that really is stunning Chicky
Thanks chick- although the pic doesn't really do it justice.
That cornus is beautiful. What we'd call up here- a right stoater!!!
Translation- 'a magnificent specimen'
Nothing as grand as above in my garden this week, although I think the wall of Geums is trying
This is my death garden presently containing lilies in pots although this border needs a massive rethink in autumn, it's a huge mess
Love this rose although I had to move it so it's very small and insignificant at the moment
I'm finding it particularly difficult to design with reds whereas I'm really happy with my purple and white border
I'm going to build a proper wooden arch next year and close this area with trellis to enhance to changes in mood here
That's the good, the bad and now the ugly.
This is a Eryngium Planum and quite healthy except that every year around mid summer, it's leaves wilt. Stalks remain upright and flower but the rest of the bottom growth seems to die off. Is this normal? I've tried googling with no results, if anyone has similar experiences or knows why it does this, I'd appreciate it
Fairygirl I would love to see iris in the flesh- pics are really lovely to look at but sometimes don't do justice to colours.
Chicky what a great tree.
Wintersong beautiful pics as always. I adore the lilies m, mine are nowhere near flowering yet
