Sorry, but that's just plain tosh.

I work in the research department of a large chemical company, me, I and others do the actual experiments, it's not exciting only repetitive!
But the senior research scientists are always reinventing the wheel, need I say any more!

Obelixx

That's the same in any company.  Senior people re-inventing wheels because they haven't the experience to know that round ones work very well whereas people who've been around longer know it's more about adjusting tyre width and pressures to enhance performance.

We have a large TV but not gi-normous.  Our old one died and this size means I can read sub-titles as long as they're not on a pale background.  Why do they do that?  I bought a sound enhancing thingummy cos OH has cloth ears but we hate it so gave it to Possum for her little TV.

I know about recent stagnation in social mobility Dove.  It'll be even worse once this business of student fees kicks in to the statistics.  Crazy, short-sighted policy.  Labour govt wasn't it?  Clever Socialism at work - not.

The wheel needs reinventing from time to time ... if we stuck with the first one we'd still be using these

Knowledge expands and old 'facts' need to be tested against new theories.

That's why some people are research scientists and others are lab technicians.

It may have been a Labour government ... socialism it wasn't

I rather like socialism Dove.  It's when it gets politicised and a capital S that brains stop working and it all goes wrong.

Dovefromabove

Totally agree Obs.  It's career politicians that screw it all up ........ all they want to do is be elected ... there's hardly any conviction politics any more.

.

Never a truer word Dove.

I used to drink at the same pub as Ken Clarke and although our politics could not be more different, I admire him because of his conviction and his life experience before entering politics. He is also a very entertaining man.

Dove, that image looks familiar. It's a place called Hampi in Karnataka. We visited there some years ago.

Papi Jo - I've been given a plant called Reine des Celtes but can't find any info on it.   Do you now it?

All I get is stuff on Boadicea.

Papi Jo

@Obelixx,

"Reine des Celtes" sounds like a fancy name. Might be "reine des prés" Filipendula ulmaria? Do you have a pic?

Obelixx

Thing is, Papi Jo, I cleverly took the label from the pot to go and research the name and then more pots got added to that group and I have no idea which one it is now.   I've heard of reine des prés and grew it in Belgium near the pond where it was damp.  I have other donations with no name so we'll just have to wait and see what grows next spring and go from there.
