Timber

Some !"!"!!"££ has dumped a load of hedge prunings down the lane. Now much of it is obviously conifer, but a lot of the thicker stuff is not so easy to id. It has mahogany coloured bark (very similar to our cherry trees) and the cut ends are bright orange. If you use Firefox it is exactly the same colour as the Firefox box at the top left of the screen. There is no discernible smell of pine and no sticky sap. No picture as I am not up to walking the mile down the road in the drizzle.
Anyone any ideas?

So many timbers go orange when the air get to cuts. I think you'll have to put the waterproofs on and go back for more details, sorry. 

need to tell the council so as they can catch whose dumping and take it away.wait till the rain stops don't want you getting a cold.

If the large pieces (orange ones as opposed to the definitely pale conifer ones) are, as we think, Cherry, then we will go and collec them up and when they are dry, they will make a nice addition to our log pile. If they are conifer, then we might still take them and wait for them to really dry out (2 or more years) and burn them. One is not supposed to burn Conifer wood as the resin released will eventually damage the chimney.

Still who can afford to leave £50 or so of wood for the Council to clear?

Oh and as to telling the Council, we are still waiting for them to remove the tyres from the passing place at the other end of the lane. Only been there 12 months now.

PS. The only reason our lane is not ankle deep in discarded drinks cans, plastic shopping bags of Supermarket picnics, things which fall out of the Bin lorry and such like, is because every now and then I don a pair of thick rubber gloves, take a plastic bag and clean the place up. We pay a huge amount in tax and get very little for it round here. No pavements, no street lights, no street cleaning. Even the gratings are only free of mud because we scrape it away.

Still a lot lot better than living in a town though.

Ditto Berghill exactly, I'm down a lane too. I have to do the same. re; collecting rubbish. I'm not complainining about my council tax at all - just like to keep my side of the street clean! As for dumped tyres, If they have been on our land I just pass them on to a friendly local company who doesn't charge us for disposing of them......

We have a log pile for burning too, otherwise it's onto the bonfire heap. I do love a good bonfire (when the wind is in the right direction and there is absolutely no chance of it blowing over neighbours' gardens!
