Fantastic! Thank you for letting me know these were up! At Christmas, they put lights everywhere, its spectacular. I'll see if I can dig out a photo
If you have any time at all left, Try to get to the Nitobe Memorial Garden on the UBC campus. Its a truly impressive Japanese garden with a little tea house. In addition, the campus is set in a lovely location in an old woodland and you can climb down (LOADS) of steps to a pacific beach (though it is a nudist hotspot!). If you go there, you're n a good position to also go to the Museum of Anthropology and the UBC Natural History Museum (can you tell I used to work there?!)

Claire - we visited the gardens and the museum twenty years ago when I stopped working
The museum was really interesting and we loved the Japanese garden.
We also spent a day at the Butchard gardens.....absolutely beautiful.
Claire, thanks for update.
