What are your favourite plants from gc bargain section?

Having just having spent a couple of hours tidying up the garden a bit,[not too tidy for all the bugs and critters],I was admiring some of my "old plant friends" that I have bought for pennies from garden centres,that I gave plenty of tlc and have been rewarded with a wonderful show year after year.eg Rose Valentine Heart light pink strong perfume, Peony Dancing Butterfly simply stunning,Honeysuckle Graham Thomas lovely yellow and cream always covered in bees. I also grow from seed I collect and have bought some fabulous plants from my village summer fayre and other fetes but I have an extre fondness for my rescued "friends" !

Acers reduced from £20 to £1, Bamboo from £40 to 50p. Bulbs for 10p per pack. A good time to buy is after Christmas as people head towards the High Street, dead to the GC and you will get a deal.

I bought a few phormiums ,I paid £10 for what had been £40 each . It was just after the realy bad winter . I split  each one  into 3 massive Plants . They soon recovered ,getting new growth this year  .  . They were all differant and one of my best buys.

My varigated Holly for £1, now a gorgeous tree.

This year the Erysium is still in flower, that was 50p!

My 'free' clematis, because I'd spent above a certain amount, some yrs back is always excellent & flowers it's socks off.

Always go to the 'sale' section to see what's around. Daughter & me go to a local GC just after Christmas to stock up on decorations & cards as well! Oh & big pots too. J.

Wow, what good offers you get in England. My local French GC thinks a special offer is a dying lupin or a finished flowering delphinium for £5.

I bought some very poor cyclamen from the supermarket for a £1 for six,they were yellow and I thought I would only get one.Put them outside for a few days and they turned green and started flowering.now planted out they are flowering and looking lovely.Also my best bargain was orchids being sold off or ones my daughter discarded.And my Acer which came free with a apple tree.

I miss Woollies, they had quite a good selection of inexpensive shrubs, I have an escallonia that I bought from there many years ago, and even when I have cut it almost to the ground it comes right back with its brilliant display of flowers. It gives me such a great feeling when I rescue a sad-looking plant and see it thrive, or perhaps I'm just tight!

I bought some geraniums from the nearly dead section 25p each a few months ago, they were a bargain just for the pots and I've 6 healthy looking plants now which were repotted and brought indoors today for next year.

Also a couple of dahlias for 50p which went on to produce a lovely show of flowers and a couple of large tubers.

I was going to mention my 50p strawberries which, a couple of years on, have produced 20 - 30 new plants, but some of you have had some brilliant bargains.

I bought all this years new Christmas decorations half price from a GC in January, the displays are usually fabulous running up to Christmas but me thinks items are a tab bit expensive to pay full price.
