Can anyone help a nd identify this for me please ?  I have moved into a new home with many plants I don't know the name of.  This one had 3 old flower spikes ( do I remove them ?) another 8 - 9 flower spikes are now emerging.  I have cleared away a lot of the old dead leaves to tidy it up a bit.  Thanks all !

Not sure but it could be a yucca. I would cut the old flower spikes off . Sorry cant be more helpful, but I am sure someone here will know.
  • Thanks - yes I think you're right about cutting the old spikes out.  Thanks for looking !

  • Hi Jane Knapman, that plant is phormium tenax variegata. Remove the dead leaves to keep the plant looking tidy and also cut out the old flower spikes in the spring The new flower spikes will last through the winter on the plant to give you interest.

  • Thank you - very much appriciated !
