Which compost?

At Xmas my wife fell for a CALATHEA plant with beautiful foliage. It is now ready for re-potting. Could someone please tell me whether I should use  multi- purpose compost, ericaceous or something else.

Any help much appreciated

  • Hello Northchiel,

Multi-purpose compost would be fine for your calathea. Make sure it's well-watered and not left in full sun and it should thrive. They do have lovely leaves don't they?

Any general multi purpose compost will be fine.

in the summer water it well but do not water log it, as a feed use baby bio around once every 10 to 14 days or so.

Avoid strong direct sunlight at all times. ( they do not like it )

in the winter reduce watering and stop feeding.

Avoid placing the plant anywhere near heat sources such as radiators and heating systems, where the temperatures change fast.

Ideal temperatures for this plant are between 60 and 70 F.

    I hope that helps. image
