Why do I not get flowers?!

Liz WarnerLiz Warner Posts: 199

imageI always buy beautiful house plants covered in flowers and the flowers fall off and are never replaced! I'm great at growing leaves. (Apart from orchids which I can do quite well with!) I often have this issue with outdoor plants too but never to this extreme. What am I doing wrong?!

Houses are normally too warm for the plants bought as decorative plantings. The plants have been carefully nurtured by the growers so that they are at their best when put out for sale but the house is an alien environment for most of the hardy plants so produced. Plants need all round light so they will grow lop sided trying to get to the daylight and have to be moved a quarter turn each day to keep them straight. I don't think you are on your own with this type of problem.

This'll sound daft but are you looking after them TOO WELL?

So they have no need to flower I.e. produce the next generation.
