wildflower-interloper

This has appeared in our garden and as it is doing so well I think it must be a wildflower. I can't find in any of our books. Can anyone identify it please?

Hi Valerie image It is Persicaria virginiana/Polygonum virginiana. A form of knotweed which is why it grows so well. Not THE Knotweed but still pretty invasive.

  • Oh addict thanks for that I have one aswell.... Strange cause my vietnamese coriander has almost the same leaf.....

looks like Persicaria maculosa, aka Redshank?

  • Thank you Addict and PaulaH. It's certainly a Persicaria and whichever it is I think I will stop it in it.s tracks. Even though the flower is attractive I don't think it's right for a 40ft x 40ft garden with lots of other plants to grow.
